Lee Ha-yi (Hangul: 이하이), known as Lee Hi, is a South Korean singer and songwriter. She was born on September 23, 1996. She first became known as the runner-up on the TV show K-pop Star season 1.
Lee Hi officially started her music career with the song "1, 2, 3, 4" on October 28, 2012. This song quickly became very popular. Her first full album, First Love, was released in two parts in March 2013. In 2020, she joined the music label AOMG. She released her studio album 4 Only in 2021.

Early Life and K-pop Star Journey
Lee Ha-yi was born in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, South Korea. In December 2011, when she was 15, Lee auditioned for the TV show K-pop Star. This show was a competition to find new music talents.
She finished as the runner-up, coming in second place. Soon after the show, she signed with YG Entertainment, a big music company. Before her official debut, she sang on a song called "It's Cold" with the group Epik High in October 2012.
Music Career Highlights
Starting Her Music Journey (2012–2015)
On October 24, 2012, it was announced that Lee Ha-yi would debut as a solo artist. She would use the stage name "Lee Hi." Her first song, "1, 2, 3, 4," was released on October 28.
Lee Hi performed her new song on TV music shows. She won her first music show award on November 8, 2012. Her song "1, 2, 3, 4" was the number one song on the Gaon Digital Chart for November. This earned her an award for Song of the Year – November.
After her first hit, Lee Hi released another song called "Scarecrow" in November. In March 2013, her first album First Love came out. It included songs like "It's Over" and "Rose."
In December 2013, Lee Hi formed a special duo called "BOM&HI" with 2NE1's Park Bom. They released a cover of Mariah Carey's song "All I Want For Christmas Is You." In November 2014, Lee Hi formed another duo called Hi Suhyun with Akdong Musician's Lee Su-hyun. Their song "I'm Different" also featured iKon's Bobby. This duo also won an award on a music show.
Growing Success (2016–2018)
On March 9, 2016, Lee Hi released her album Seoulite. It featured popular songs like "Breathe" and "Hold My Hand." "Breathe" won her a Digital Bonsang award at the Golden Disc Awards. Lee Hi helped write and compose the song "Passing By" on this album.
She also sang on songs for TV dramas, such as "Can You Hear My Heart" and "My Love" for Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. In August 2017, Lee Hi appeared on a TV show called Party People. She shared that her song "Breathe" was inspired by her past experiences with feeling anxious.
In March 2018, Lee Hi released her first Japanese album. She then went on a tour in Japan. Later that year, she covered Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the movie Bohemian Rhapsody.
New Beginnings (2019–Present)
On May 30, 2019, Lee Hi released her EP (mini-album) called 24°C. The main song, "No One" (featuring B.I), became number one on many music charts in South Korea. She also wrote and produced a song called "20Min" on this album.
After her contract with YG Entertainment ended in December 2019, Lee Hi decided not to renew it. In June 2020, she joined the cast of the TV show Begin Again.
On July 22, 2020, Lee Hi signed a new contract with AOMG, a hip-hop and R&B music label. She then released her song "Holo." "Holo" reached number 7 on the Gaon Digital Chart and won the R&B Track of the Year award at the Korean Hip-hop Awards.
On September 9, 2021, Lee Hi released her third studio album, 4 Only. In March 2022, her song "Only" from this album also won R&B Track of the Year at the Korean Hip-hop Awards.
In March 2024, Lee Hi's contract with AOMG ended. She decided not to renew it again. On September 23, 2024, she signed a new contract with Duover to manage her future music. To celebrate her 28th birthday, she also released a video of a new song called "One Thing" on her YouTube channel.
Collaborations and Endorsements
Lee Hi has worked with different brands. On March 9, 2017, she teamed up with the makeup brand MAC. They created a special matte red lipstick named "Lee Hi." This lipstick was sold all over the world. She also held fan events with MAC in Seoul.
