Lens Creek is a small river, called a tributary, in West Virginia, United States. It flows into the Kanawha River. The creek is about 6.4 miles (10.3 km) long.
Lens Creek is part of a larger watershed. This means all the rain and water that falls in a certain area flows into Lens Creek. From there, the water joins the Kanawha River, then the Ohio River, and finally the mighty Mississippi River. The area it drains is about 19.9 square miles (51.5 km²). This area is part of the Allegheny Plateau, near the city of Charleston.
Where Lens Creek Flows
Lens Creek is entirely located within Kanawha County. It begins about 2.7 miles (4.3 km) northwest of a small place called Bloomingrose.
The creek then flows generally towards the northeast. It passes through the community of Hernshaw. Finally, Lens Creek flows into the Kanawha River in the city of Marmet.
A road called West Virginia Route 94 runs alongside Lens Creek for most of its journey.
How Lens Creek Got Its Name
The creek was named after an early settler in the area. His name was Leonard Morris, but people often called him "Len." So, the creek became known as Lens Creek.
