History of Lewiston
Lewiston got its name from Jonathan Smith Lewis, who was one of the first settlers in the area. A post office opened here in 1872. The city officially became a town in 1873.
Lewiston was once a very important stop for travelers. It was the first stop on the stagecoach line that went between Winona and Rochester. This made Lewiston a helpful place for people on their journeys.
