About Lexar
Lexar makes many different types of memory products. These include SD cards, which you might use in cameras or phones. They also make USB flash drives, which are small devices you plug into a computer to save files. Other products include Solid-state drives (SSDs) for computers and special card readers.
Lexar's History
Early Years (1996–2006)
Lexar started in 1996 in San Jose, California, in the United States. It was first part of another company called Cirrus Logic. Lexar became its own company in 1996. It was created by Petro Estakhri and Mike Assar.
In 2005, Lexar won a big lawsuit against Toshiba. Toshiba had copied some of Lexar's special flash memory technology. Lexar was awarded $380 million because of this.
Under Micron (2006–2017)
In 2006, a company called Micron Technology bought Lexar. Lexar then became part of Micron. They even worked with Eastman Kodak Company to make Kodak-branded memory products.
However, in 2017, Micron decided to stop selling Lexar's memory products to regular customers. They also looked for someone to buy the Lexar brand.
Under Longsys (2017–Present)
On August 31, 2017, a Chinese company named Longsys bought the Lexar brand. Longsys is also a company that makes flash memory products.
In 2018, Lexar started selling its memory products again. In 2019, Lexar showed off the first SD card that could hold 1 terabyte (TB) of data. That's a lot of storage!
Lexar also showed a very fast computer storage device (an SSD) in 2019. In 2020, they released a very small memory card. They also started making DRAM memory for computers. This type of memory helps your computer run programs faster.
USB FlashCard
The USB FlashCard was a special type of memory card that Lexar created. They announced it in 2004.
There were many different memory card types back then, like SD cards. The cool thing about the USB FlashCard was that it was also a standard USB flash drive. This meant you could plug it directly into a computer without needing a separate card reader.
The USB FlashCard was designed to be very thin. It was about 31.75 mm long, 12 mm wide, and 4.5 mm thick. This made it similar in size to other popular memory cards, but it had the added benefit of being a USB drive.
