Speaking Out on Important Issues
Liam Cunningham believes that well-known people should speak up about important issues in society. He thinks it's the job of elected politicians to solve problems, but celebrities can help by raising awareness.
He has spoken about healthcare, saying that everyone should have access to good health services. He believes that if politicians used the public healthcare system themselves, it would quickly improve for everyone.
Liam has also talked about housing. He has criticized the government's housing plans, saying they need to do more to help young people afford their own homes. In 2022, he joined a campaign called "Raise the Roof," which asked the government to act faster on housing issues.
Liam has been involved in campaigns supporting the people of Palestine for many years. He believes in fairness and peace for them. In 2015, he was one of many artists who signed a letter supporting a cultural boycott, which means not participating in certain events or trade, to show support for Palestine. In 2023, he signed another letter calling for a ceasefire in the conflict and asking Western governments to do more to help.
In June 2025, Liam Cunningham spoke at an event and criticized the Irish Government's approach to the conflict in Gaza. He argued that helping people should be more important than economic reasons. He called for stronger actions, like passing a law to stop trade with areas that are occupied, and ending trade with Israel. He also supported keeping Ireland's policy of Irish neutrality, which means Ireland tries to stay out of conflicts, and the "triple lock" policy for its defense forces, which sets rules for when they can be sent abroad.
