Limas Lee Sweed Jr. was born on December 25, 1984. He is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). The Pittsburgh Steelers chose him in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft. He helped the Steelers win Super Bowl XLIII. He also played college football for the Texas Longhorns. Later, he played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Early Life and High School Sports
Limas Sweed grew up in Brenham, Texas. He went to Brenham High School. He was a starting wide receiver for the Brenham Cubs football team. He helped them reach the Texas AAAA State Championship.
Besides football, Limas also played basketball and ran track. In track, he placed 4th in the 110 Hurdles at the UIL State Meet during his senior year.
College Football Career
Limas Sweed started his college football journey at the University of Texas. He was a "redshirt" freshman in 2004, meaning he practiced but did not play in games.
Sophomore Season Success
In 2005, as a sophomore, Sweed caught 36 passes for 545 yards. He scored 5 touchdowns. One of his most memorable catches was a game-winning touchdown from quarterback Vince Young. This play helped the Longhorns stay ranked second in the nation. He also had 8 catches for 65 yards in the BCS National Championship game against USC.
Junior Year Highlights
Sweed's junior year in 2006 was his best season for statistics. He played with new quarterback Colt McCoy. Sweed made 46 catches for 801 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He set a new Longhorn record by catching a touchdown pass in seven straight games. This broke the previous record held by former Longhorn Roy Williams.
Senior Year and Injury
Before the 2007 season, Sweed hurt his wrist. He was cleared to play in the first game. However, in the sixth game, the 2007 Red River Shootout, he re-injured his left wrist. He had surgery to fix the ligaments in his wrist, which ended his season early. He recovered and played in the Senior Bowl. He was fully healthy for the NFL Scouting Combine.
Professional Football Career
Limas Sweed was expected to be one of the top wide receivers chosen in the 2008 NFL Draft. However, his wrist injury caused his draft stock to drop.
Playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Sweed as the 53rd overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was the ninth wide receiver chosen. In July 2008, he signed a four-year contract with the Steelers.
During his first training camp, Sweed found out he had astigmatism in both eyes. He started wearing contact lenses. In his first preseason game, he led the Steelers with 3 catches for 23 yards. He made his regular season debut in Week 7. He caught one pass for 11 yards. That season, he helped the Steelers win Super Bowl XLIII.
In 2009, Sweed faced competition for a starting spot. He rarely played in the first few games. In Week 3, he dropped a pass that could have been a touchdown. Later that season, he became the fourth wide receiver for the team.
In December 2009, Sweed was placed on a special injury list. The team did not announce the reason, but he mentioned he was dealing with "personal issues."
In May 2010, Sweed injured his left Achilles tendon during a team minicamp. He had surgery to repair it and was placed on injured reserve for the entire season. In August 2011, the Steelers released him.
Time in the CFL
After his time with the Steelers, Limas Sweed played in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
- Saskatchewan Roughriders: He signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in October 2012. He was released by the team in June 2013.
