Lloyd is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 11,133 people lived there. It is part of the larger New York City area.

The town of Lloyd is in the eastern part of Ulster County. Important roads like U.S. Route 9W, U.S. Route 44, and NY 55 pass through it. NY 299 also crosses the town. Lloyd is across the Hudson River from Poughkeepsie. The Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Walkway over the Hudson connect these two places.

History of Lloyd

The town of Lloyd was created from the town of New Paltz, New York. This happened on April 15, 1845, by a decision of the New York State Legislature. The first town meeting was held soon after, on May 6. At this meeting, the first town leaders were chosen. These included Reuben Deyo as the town supervisor and Hasbrouck Lefevre as the town clerk.

Geography of Lloyd

Lloyd covers about 33.4 square miles (86.21 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a smaller part being water.

The eastern border of the town is the Hudson River. This river also separates Lloyd from Dutchess County. The Swarte Kill stream forms the western border, dividing Lloyd from New Paltz.

The lowest point in Lloyd is the shore of the Hudson River, which is at sea level. The highest point is the top of Illinois Mountain. This mountain is 1,125 feet (343 meters) high. Illinois Mountain is part of the Marlboro Mountains, which run through the middle of the town.
