History of Logan County

Logan County was created in 1885. It was named after John A. Logan, who was a general during the American Civil War. The very first railroad line was built through Logan County in 1911. This helped people and goods move around more easily.

Geography and Nature

Logan County has mostly flat land. This land is not used much for farming right now. The ground gently slopes towards the east-northeast. Rainwater flows into the Dismal River, which is north of the county.

The county covers about 571 square miles (about 1,479 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny bit, about 0.5 square miles, is water.
