Logan Daniel Ryan (born February 9, 1991) is a former American professional football player. He played as a defensive back in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. Ryan played college football for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He was chosen by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. Ryan also played for the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and San Francisco 49ers. He started his career as a cornerback for seven seasons. In 2020, he switched to playing safety for his last four seasons.

Early Life and High School Football

Logan Ryan grew up in Berlin, New Jersey. He went to Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees, New Jersey. There, he played for the Eastern Vikings high school football team. He was a top player, earning all-state honors as both a cornerback and a quarterback. Experts considered him a four-star recruit, ranking him among the best cornerback prospects in his class.

College Football Career

Ryan played college football for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team. In 2011, as a sophomore, he was named to the second-team All-Big East Conference. The next year, in 2012, he was a first-team All-Big East selection.

In 2012, Pro Football Weekly also named Ryan a first-team All-American. This is a big honor for college players. On December 31, 2012, Ryan decided to leave Rutgers early. He chose to enter the 2013 NFL draft instead of playing his senior year.

Starting a Professional Football Career

Before the NFL Draft, many experts thought Ryan would be picked in the third round. He showed off his skills at the NFL combine and Rutgers' pro day. He was ranked as one of the best cornerback prospects.

Playing for the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots picked Logan Ryan in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was the 83rd player chosen overall. In May 2013, Ryan signed his first professional contract.

Rookie Season Highlights (2013)

Ryan started his NFL journey as the fourth cornerback for the Patriots. He made his NFL debut in a game against the Buffalo Bills. In Week 7, he got his first NFL start against the New York Jets. In that game, he made his first NFL interception and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown! This was his first career touchdown.

Later in the season, Ryan became a starter. He had a great rookie year, with 35 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and five interceptions. He also broke up 10 passes. The Patriots had a strong season, finishing with a 12–4 record. Ryan played in the playoffs, helping the team win against the Indianapolis Colts.

Super Bowl Champion (2014)

In his second season, Ryan continued to play an important role for the Patriots. He had 42 tackles and two interceptions. The Patriots had another excellent season, winning the AFC East with a 12–4 record.

Ryan played in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots won the Super Bowl 28–24, making Logan Ryan a Super Bowl champion!

Becoming a Key Player (2015)

For the 2015 season, Ryan became a full-time starting cornerback. He had a career-high 74 tackles and 14 pass deflections. He also caught four interceptions. The Patriots made it to the playoffs again. They won against the Kansas City Chiefs but lost a close game to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship.

Winning Another Super Bowl (2016)

Ryan was a starting cornerback for the Patriots again in 2016. He had a career-high 92 tackles and 11 pass deflections. He also had two interceptions and a sack.

The Patriots had an amazing 14–2 record. Ryan played a big part in their playoff run. He started in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots made an incredible comeback, winning 34–28 in overtime. This was Logan Ryan's second Super Bowl championship!

Time with the Tennessee Titans

In March 2017, Logan Ryan signed a three-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. He became a starting cornerback for the team.

First Season with the Titans (2017)

In his first year with the Titans, Ryan had 62 tackles and 11 pass deflections. The Titans made it to the playoffs. They won a thrilling game against the Kansas City Chiefs but then lost to Ryan's former team, the Patriots.

Strong Defensive Play (2018)

Ryan continued to be a key player for the Titans in 2018. He had 76 tackles and a career-high four sacks. Unfortunately, he suffered a broken leg late in the season, which ended his year early.

Career-Best Season (2019)

Ryan came back strong in 2019, playing in all 16 games for the first time in his career. He had his best season ever, with 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 18 pass deflections, and four interceptions.

In the playoffs, the Titans faced the Patriots. In the final seconds of the game, Ryan intercepted a pass from his former teammate, Tom Brady. He returned it for a touchdown, securing a big upset win for the Titans! This play was very memorable. The Titans then won against the Baltimore Ravens but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

In May 2020, Ryan announced he would not return to the Titans.

Playing for the New York Giants

Switching to Safety (2020)

In September 2020, Ryan signed with the New York Giants. This was a big change for him, as he decided to switch from playing cornerback to safety.

He continued to make important plays. In Week 9, he made an interception late in the game to help the Giants win. In December 2020, Ryan signed a new contract extension with the Giants. He finished the season with 94 tackles, one interception, and nine passes defended.

Final Season with the Giants (2021)

Ryan played another season with the Giants in 2021. He had a career-high 117 total tackles. He also had eight passes defended and a sack. The Giants released Ryan in March 2022.

Time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In March 2022, Ryan signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played in nine games, making 37 tackles and one interception. He suffered a foot injury during the season but returned to play later.

Playing for the San Francisco 49ers

In December 2023, Ryan joined the San Francisco 49ers. He played in five games and made 13 tackles. He also played in Super Bowl LVIII with the 49ers, where he had seven tackles and forced a fumble. The 49ers lost a close game in overtime.

Retirement from Football

On April 9, 2024, Logan Ryan announced that he was retiring from the NFL. He had a successful career spanning 11 seasons.

Personal Life and Charity Work

Logan Ryan is married to Ashley, and they have two children, Avery and Otto. Together, they started The Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation (RARF.org). This foundation works with groups that help animals. They encourage people to adopt pets and provide money and learning chances for animal welfare.

Every month on the 26th, which is his jersey number, Ryan shares a photo on social media. The photo features a dog that needs a home, along with the hashtag #ryansmonthlyrescue. Logan's older brother, Jordan, is an engineer.
