Long Lake is a really big lake in the state of Michigan, United States. It covers about 5,625 acres (which is over 22 square kilometers) of water. This makes it the 20th largest inland lake in all of Michigan!
Long Lake is so large that it stretches across two different areas called counties. These are Alpena County and Presque Isle County, both located in the northern part of Michigan.
Where is Long Lake?
Most of Long Lake is found in a place called Alpena Township, Michigan. The southern edge of the lake is only about 7 miles (11 kilometers) from downtown Alpena. A major road, U.S. Highway 23, runs right along the eastern side of the lake, making it easy to visit.
In Presque Isle County, the lake reaches into two other townships: Presque Isle Township and Krakow Township.
Fun Things to Do at Long Lake
Long Lake is a great spot for outdoor activities! There's a special park in Alpena County right next to the lake. This park has a beach where you can spend the day swimming and enjoying the water.

A Common Name
The name "Long Lake" is very common in Michigan. That's because Michigan has over 11,000 inland lakes! These lakes cover a huge area of about 1,305 square miles (3,380 square kilometers) of water.
It's easy to get confused because there are other lakes named Long Lake in Michigan. For example, there's another Long Lake near Traverse City. That one is on the opposite side of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan from this Long Lake. So, when someone says "Long Lake," it's good to check which one they mean!
