Loopy De Loop is a fun cartoon series made for movie theaters. It was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. They started their own company, Hanna-Barbera Productions, after working at MGM.

A total of 48 cartoons were made between 1959 and 1965. Columbia Pictures released these cartoons in movie theaters. Loopy De Loop was the only cartoon series Hanna-Barbera ever made just for theaters. It was also one of the last short cartoon series released by Columbia Pictures.

Meet Loopy De Loop: The Good Wolf

Loopy De Loop is a kind wolf who always tries to help others. He speaks with a funny French-Canadian accent. You can always spot him wearing his special knit cap, called a tuque.

Loopy believes in being a good person, or rather, a good wolf! He wants to show everyone that wolves are not always bad. In every episode, he proudly introduces himself by saying, "I am Loopy De Loop, the good wolf."

Even though Loopy is always kind and helpful, people often treat him badly. They might beat him up or chase him away. This happens just because he is a wolf, and people have unfair ideas about wolves. But Loopy never gives up! He always thinks of himself as "kind, considerate and charming."

What Does "Loopy De Loop" Mean?

The name "Loopy De Loop" is a clever play on words:

  • "Loop the loop" is a cool trick. It's when an airplane flies in a full circle, upside down and back again.
  • The scientific name for a grey wolf is Canis lupus. The word "loup" is French for wolf. So, "De Loop" sounds like "the wolf."
  • "Loopy" can also mean a bit silly or eccentric. This fits Loopy's sometimes funny adventures.
