Lucas Vázquez Iglesias (born on 1 July 1991) is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays as a right-back or a winger.

Lucas Vázquez started his football journey at Real Madrid. He played his first game for the main team in 2015. Before that, he spent a season playing on loan at Espanyol. He made his first appearance in La Liga, Spain's top football league, with Espanyol.

After returning to Real Madrid in 2015, he played over 400 matches for the club. He has won many important trophies. These include five Champions League titles and four La Liga titles.

Vázquez also played for the Spanish national team. He represented Spain in the Euro 2016 tournament. He also played for his country in the 2018 World Cup.

Starting His Football Journey

Lucas Vázquez was born in Curtis, a town in Spain. He joined Real Madrid's youth academy in 2007 when he was 16 years old. He began playing for Real Madrid's C-team in the 2010–11 season.

In the next season, he scored four goals in 23 games. This helped Real Madrid's reserve team, Real Madrid B, get promoted. They returned to the Segunda División, which is Spain's second-highest league. His first goal for the reserves was on 25 February 2012.

Vázquez played his first game in the second division on 17 August 2012. He scored his first professional goal on 15 October. This goal helped his team win 3–2 against Las Palmas.

Playing for Espanyol (Loan)

On 19 August 2014, Lucas Vázquez was loaned to Espanyol. This team plays in La Liga, Spain's top league. He played his first game for Espanyol on 30 August. He came on as a substitute in a match against Sevilla.

Vázquez scored his first goal in the top Spanish league on 5 October 2014. It was the first goal in a 2–0 win against Real Sociedad. On 3 June 2015, he officially signed a four-year contract with Espanyol.

Returning to Real Madrid

On 30 June 2015, Real Madrid bought Lucas Vázquez back. He made his first appearance for Real Madrid on 12 September. It was a big 6–0 win against his old team, Espanyol. His first start for Real Madrid was a week later.

Vázquez scored his first goal for Real Madrid on 30 December 2015. He came on as a substitute and scored in a 3–1 win. This game was played at the Santiago Bernabéu. He played in seven matches during the 2015–16 Champions League season. Real Madrid won this tournament. In the final against Atlético Madrid, he scored in the penalty shootout.

Vázquez started in the 2016 UEFA Super Cup match against Sevilla. He helped his team score a goal in injury time. Real Madrid eventually won the game 3–2 in extra time. On 26 October 2016, he signed a new contract with Real Madrid until 2021.

He played 33 times in the 2016–17 season and scored two goals. He helped Real Madrid win their first league title in five years. He also played in ten Champions League matches that season. Real Madrid won the Champions League again that year.

Vázquez played in ten matches during the 2017–18 Champions League. He scored one goal. Real Madrid won their third Champions League title in a row. This was their 13th title overall.

Lucas Vázquez was a regular player during the 2020–21 season. On 10 April 2021, he got injured in a match against Barcelona. He was out for the rest of the season because of a knee injury. On 3 June 2021, Vázquez signed a new three-year contract. This kept him at Real Madrid until 2024. On 18 July 2024, he signed another one-year contract, which ran until 2025.

On 24 May 2025, Vázquez played his 400th game for Real Madrid. This was in a 2–0 win against Real Sociedad. It was the final match of the 2024–25 season.

On 16 July 2025, Lucas Vázquez announced he was leaving Real Madrid. He had been with the club for 10 years.

Lucas Vázquez's International Career

Lucas Vázquez did not play for Spain's youth national teams. On 17 May 2016, he was chosen for Spain's team for UEFA Euro 2016. He made his first appearance for the national team on 7 June. This was in a friendly match against Georgia.

He played once in the Euro 2016 tournament. He came on as a substitute in a match against Italy. He was also part of the team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played his first World Cup game on 15 June. He came on as a substitute in a 3–3 draw against Portugal.
