Lucas Vázquez Iglesias (born 1 July 1991) is a Spanish professional football player. He plays as a right-back or winger for the La Liga club Real Madrid.

Lucas Vázquez started his football journey at Real Madrid. He made his first team debut in 2015. Before that, he spent a season playing on loan at Espanyol. He played his first game in La Liga, Spain's top football league, with Espanyol.

Since returning to Real Madrid in 2015, he has played in over 200 league matches. He has won many important trophies with the club. These include five Champions League titles and four La Liga titles.

Vázquez also played for the Spanish national team. He represented his country at Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.

Starting at Real Madrid's Youth Academy

Lucas Vázquez was born in Curtis, Spain. He joined Real Madrid's youth system in 2007 when he was 16 years old. He first played for Real Madrid's C-team in the 2010–11 season.

In the next season (2011–12), he scored four goals in 23 games. This helped Real Madrid's reserve team, Real Madrid B, get back into the Segunda División (second division) after five years. His first goal for the reserves was on 25 February 2012.

Vázquez played his first game in the second division on 17 August 2012. He scored his first professional goal on 15 October. This goal helped his team win 3–2 against Las Palmas.

Playing on Loan for Espanyol

On 19 August 2014, Lucas Vázquez was loaned to La Liga club Espanyol. A loan means he played for Espanyol for one season but was still a Real Madrid player. He made his debut in La Liga on 30 August. He came on as a substitute in a game against Sevilla.

Vázquez scored his first goal in Spain's top league on 5 October 2014. This goal helped Espanyol win 2–0 against Real Sociedad. On 3 June of the next year, Espanyol signed him permanently for €2 million.

Returning to Real Madrid

On 30 June 2015, Real Madrid decided to buy Lucas Vázquez back. He returned to his original club. He played his first game back with Real Madrid on 12 September. It was a big 6–0 win against his former team, Espanyol.

Vázquez scored his first goal for Real Madrid on 30 December 2015. He came into the game as a substitute and scored in a 3–1 win against Real Sociedad. He played in seven games during the 2015–16 Champions League season. Real Madrid won this important tournament. In the final against Atlético Madrid, he scored in the penalty shootout that helped Real Madrid win.

Vázquez started the 2016 UEFA Super Cup game against Sevilla. He helped Sergio Ramos score a goal in injury time, which sent the game into extra time. Real Madrid eventually won 3–2. He signed a new contract with Real Madrid on 26 October 2016, which lasted until 2021.

During the 2016–17 season, Vázquez played 33 times and scored two goals. He helped Real Madrid win their first league title in five years. He also played in ten Champions League matches that season. Real Madrid won the Champions League again that year.

Vázquez played in ten matches during the 2017–18 Champions League season. Real Madrid won their third Champions League title in a row, and their 13th overall.

In November 2019, Vázquez had a toe injury. After he recovered, he played in 18 league games. Real Madrid won the 2019–20 La Liga title that season.

He was a regular player during the 2020–21 season. On 10 April 2021, he got an injury to his left knee during a game against Barcelona. This injury meant he could not play for the rest of the season. On 3 June 2021, Vázquez signed a new three-year contract with Real Madrid. He signed another one-year contract on 18 July 2024, keeping him at the club until 2025.

Lucas Vázquez's International Career

Lucas Vázquez did not play for Spain's youth national teams. On 17 May 2016, he was chosen for Spain's team for UEFA Euro 2016 in France. This was his first time being called up for the national team. He made his debut on 7 June in a friendly game against Georgia.

He played once in the Euro 2016 tournament. He came on as a substitute in a game against Italy. He was also part of the Spanish team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played his first World Cup game on 15 June, coming on as a substitute in a 3–3 draw against Portugal.
