Ludovico Geymonat facts for kids
Ludovico Geymonat (born May 11, 1908 – died November 29, 1991) was an Italian thinker. He was a mathematician, a philosopher, and a historian of science. As a philosopher, he mainly studied the philosophy of science. He also explored how we gain knowledge (epistemology) and Marxist philosophy. He brought new ideas to these fields.

Biography
Born in Turin, Italy, Geymonat went to Liceo classico Cavour school. He earned degrees in Philosophy in 1930 and Mathematics in 1932.
Geymonat wanted to connect science and philosophy. At the time, Fascist thinkers like Giovanni Gentile kept these two areas separate. In 1934, he traveled to Vienna. There, he studied the ideas of the Vienna Circle, a group of philosophers.
During World War II, he fought as a partisan. Partisans were groups who resisted the occupying forces. After the war, he worked for the communist party in Milan from 1946 to 1949.
Later, he became a professor. He taught Theoretical philosophy at the University of Cagliari. From 1952 to 1956, he was a professor of History of philosophy at the University of Pavia. Then, from 1956 to 1979, he taught philosophy of science at the University of Milan.
He was a member of the Italian Communist Party (PCI). Later, he supported the Communist Refoundation Party. This party was formed when the PCI changed its name to the Partito Democratico della Sinistra.
Ludovico Geymonat passed away in Rho, Lombardy in 1991.
