History of Luther
How Luther Got Started
A post office opened in Luther in 1883. The town itself was officially planned and settled in 1893. Luther was named after Clark Luther, who was a local business owner.
A City That Stayed
In 2014, some residents wanted the city to be "discontinued." This means they wanted it to stop being an official city. The city council received a request from 58 people to start this process.
However, after a public vote, the idea to discontinue the city failed. So, Luther continued to be a city. Since 2015, new businesses have opened, and a local co-op (a type of business owned by its members) has grown a lot.
