Luther Brown facts for kids

Luther Brown is a super talented Canadian choreographer and artistic director. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He's famous for creating amazing hip hop dance routines for movies, TV shows, and commercials.

You might know his work from the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. He's often a choreographer for the show and was even a judge on So You Think You Can Dance Canada! Luther also helped start a company called Do Dat Entertainment. He has choreographed over 100 music videos for huge stars like Janet Jackson, P.Diddy, Alicia Keys, Brandy, Christina Aguilera, Nicki Minaj, and the K-Pop group Big Bang.

Growing Up and Learning Dance

Luther Brown's dad had a community radio show. Helping his dad taught Luther a lot about music and rhythm. When he was in high school, Luther loved to dance and was part of step teams. He also enjoyed writing songs.

Later, while studying at the University of Windsor, Luther started his own step dance group. This is where he really developed his unique style of choreography.

Luther Brown's Career Journey

Even while he was still in university, Luther began creating dances for many important hip-hop artists in Toronto during the 1990s. He worked with artists like Jully Black, Michie Mee, and Maestro Fresh Wes.

In 2003, he got his first chance to work with American performers. He was asked to choreograph a music video for rappers Cam'ron and Mase.

Awards and TV Shows

In 2007, Luther won an award for Outstanding Choreography in a Commercial. This was for his amazing work with the sports brand Nike.

Starting in 2008, Luther became a judge and choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance Canada. He also choreographed for the final season of the American version of So You Think You Can Dance. You might have also seen him make guest appearances on other TV shows like X-Factor, Making the Band 4, and the Canadian show The Next Step.

In 2013, he worked with the super popular Korean boy band BigBang, creating their dance moves.

Luther Brown is also a very dedicated dance teacher. He travels all over the world to teach dance. He teaches in many different places, from local community centers and high schools to big dance events. He loves sharing his passion for dance with others!
