Lycksele Municipality (in Swedish: Lycksele kommun) is a special area in northern Sweden. It is part of Västerbotten County. The main town, or seat, of the municipality is Lycksele. This area is located in the southern part of Swedish Lapland.

A Look at Lycksele's History

The history of Lycksele Municipality goes back to the 1800s. Back then, it was known as Lycksele parish. Its borders and size were very similar to what they are today.

Over time, Lycksele changed its official status. In 1929, the entire rural area became a market town. Later, in 1946, it was given the status of a city. In 1971, Lycksele joined with another area called Örträsk Municipality.

Some northern parts of Sweden have fewer people living in them. But Lycksele has projects to help it grow. For example, a part of Umeå University is located here.
