The Story of Lyons
Lyons started around 1890. It began as a train station, or "depot," for the Central of Georgia Railway. The community was named after a railroad official named Mr. Lyons.
Lyons officially became a city on December 9, 1897. Later, in 1905, it was chosen to be the county seat for the new Toombs County. This means it became the main city for the county's government.

Lyons is found at 32°12′15″N 82°19′22″W / 32.20417°N 82.32278°W. This is its exact spot on a map.
Roads and Highways
The city is located where two major U.S. Routes meet: U.S. Route 1 and U.S. Route 280.
- U.S. Route 1 goes north and south through the middle of Lyons. It leads north about 12 miles (19 km) to Oak Park. It goes south about 31 miles (50 km) to Baxley.
- U.S. Route 280 runs east and west through the city. It is known as West Liberty Avenue. This route goes southeast about 15 miles (24 km) to Reidsville. It goes west about 6 miles (10 km) to Vidalia.
Other important roads in Lyons include Georgia State Routes 152, 178, and 292.
