The M6 Toll is a special kind of road in the Midlands of England. It is also known as the Birmingham North Relief Road or Midland Expressway. This road is a toll road, which means drivers have to pay money to use it. It is a fast motorway designed to help traffic move smoothly.

The main reason the M6 Toll was built was to help reduce traffic on the busy M6 motorway. The M6 often gets very crowded, especially around the city of Birmingham. The M6 Toll offers a way for drivers to go around this busy area. It stretches from the M6 at Coleshill all the way to the M6 near Wolverhampton.

The M6 Toll first opened in 2003. When it was planned, many people hoped it would greatly reduce traffic jams on the main M6. However, some people believe it has not worked as well as expected. They say that traffic on the M6 has not gone down much. This might be because the cost to use the M6 Toll is quite high, so many drivers choose not to pay the fee.

Using the M6 Toll

The M6 Toll has special entry and exit points called junctions. These junctions allow cars to join or leave the motorway. Unlike regular motorways, the M6 Toll has toll plazas where drivers pay their fee. You will see signs telling you when a toll plaza is coming up.

One interesting part of the M6 Toll is its southernmost section. This part of the road, south of Junction T1, is shared with traffic using the M42 motorway. If drivers only use this five-mile section, they do not have to pay a toll. This means you can use a small part of the M6 Toll for free if you are also using the M42 in that area.
