History of Macedonia, Iowa
Macedonia was named after the ancient region of Macedonia in Greece. The city is found along the historic Pioneer Trail. This trail was used by early settlers traveling west.
Geography of Macedonia
Macedonia is located in the western part of Iowa. The city covers a total area of about 0.61 square kilometers (0.24 square miles). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.

In 2020, the census counted 267 people in Macedonia. These people lived in 131 households. About 79 of these households were families. The city had about 437 people per square kilometer (1,131 per square mile).
Most people in Macedonia were White (93.3%). A small number of people were from other racial backgrounds. This included Black or African American, Native American, and Asian residents. Some people identified with two or more races. About 3.4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (32.1%) had children under 18 living with them. About 40.5% of households were married couples. The average age of people in the city was 39.6 years old. About 24.7% of residents were under 20 years old.
What the 2010 Census Shows
