A baronetcy is a special title given by the King or Queen. It's a bit like being a knight, but the title can be passed down through the family. It's not a noble title like a Duke or Earl, but it's still a very old and respected honour.

There have been two different baronet titles created for people with the last name Maclean. One was created a long time ago in Nova Scotia (a part of Canada now), and the other was created more recently in the United Kingdom. Both of these titles still exist today.

The Maclean Baronetcy, of Morvaren (which is in Argyll, Scotland), was created on September 3, 1631. The first person to hold this title was Lachlan Maclean. This title was meant to be passed down to his male family members.

His great-grandson, the fifth Baronet, was given another special title, Lord Maclean, in 1716. When he passed away around 1751, his title went to a relative, the sixth Baronet. This Baronet was the great-grandson of Donald Maclean of Brolas. After him, another relative, the seventh Baronet, took over. He was the grandson of Hector Og Maclean of Brolas. He didn't have children, so his half-brother became the eighth Baronet.

The eleventh Baronet, Sir Charles Hector Fitzroy Maclean, was a very important person. He was the Chief Scout for the whole Commonwealth (a group of countries linked to the UK). He also worked for Queen Elizabeth II as her Lord Chamberlain. In 1971, he was given a new title for his lifetime: Baron Maclean. When he passed away in 1990, his Baron title ended, but his son became the twelfth Baronet. This son is also the 28th Chief of Clan Maclean of Duart, which is a very old Scottish family. The family's historic home is Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull in Scotland.

The Maclean Baronetcy, of Strachur and Glensluain (also in Argyll, Scotland), was created later, on July 22, 1957. This title was given to Fitzroy Maclean. He was a diplomat (someone who works with other countries), a soldier, a writer, and a politician. As of 2010, his son is the second Baronet, having taken over the title in 1996.
