Madison Bowey (born April 22, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He plays as a defenceman, which is a player who helps protect his team's goal. Bowey currently plays for the Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
He was chosen by the Washington Capitals in the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) draft. He was the 53rd player picked overall. Bowey won the famous Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018. He has also played for other NHL teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Vancouver Canucks.

Madison Bowey's Hockey Journey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Madison Bowey began his junior hockey career with the Kelowna Rockets. He was picked by them in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. In his first full season (2011–12), he scored 8 goals and had 21 points. He quickly became an important player for the Rockets.
During the 2012–13 season, Bowey showed he was a top defender. He scored 12 goals and 30 points in 69 games. His strong play made him a promising player for the NHL draft. He helped the Rockets win their division that year.
Becoming a Professional Player
Playing for the Washington Capitals
On April 2, 2014, the Washington Capitals signed Bowey to a three-year contract. This was his first professional deal. He joined their minor league team, the Hershey Bears, to start his pro career.
Bowey made his NHL debut with the Capitals on October 14, 2017. He got his first NHL point later that month, assisting on a goal. In 2018, Bowey achieved a huge milestone. He won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals! Even though he didn't play in the playoff games, he played enough during the regular season to have his name carved on the Cup. This was a historic win for the Capitals, their first Stanley Cup ever.
In the next season (2018–19), Bowey started the year on the Capitals' main roster. He scored his first NHL goal on December 29, 2018. It was a special night because another rookie defenceman, Tyler Lewington, also scored his first NHL goal in the same game.
Moving to Other NHL Teams
On February 22, 2019, Bowey was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. He scored his first goal for the Red Wings in March 2019. After playing for the Red Wings, Bowey signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in January 2021. He later moved to the Vancouver Canucks in April 2021. In July 2022, he signed a contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
Playing Overseas and Return
After his time in the NHL, Bowey decided to play hockey overseas. In August 2023, he signed with HC Dinamo Minsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which is a major league in Europe and Asia. He then played for two other KHL teams, Traktor Chelyabinsk and Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.
In October 2024, Bowey returned to North America. He signed a contract with the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL). This team is connected to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
As of July 2025, Madison Bowey is back in Europe. He signed a one-year contract with the Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League.

Madison Bowey has proudly represented Team Canada in several international tournaments. He helped his team win a Gold Medal at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
At the 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships, Bowey scored an important goal. It was the tying goal against the United States in the gold medal game. Canada went on to win that game 3-2, earning another gold medal. He also won a gold medal at the 2015 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.
