Malaga (/məˈlɑːɡə/) is a suburb located in Perth, Western Australia. It's about 11 kilometers (7 miles) north of Perth's city center, within the City of Swan. This area started to develop with new buildings and homes around 10 years before World War I began.

Where Did Malaga Get Its Name?

The name Malaga might come from a city in Spain called Málaga. Another idea is that it comes from an Aboriginal word, malaga, which means "ironstone." The name was officially approved in 1969.

What Is Malaga Like?

Malaga is mostly an industrial area. This means it has many businesses and factories, not many homes. In fact, the 2006 census showed that only 28 people lived there. However, over 12,000 people work in the more than 2,400 businesses located in Malaga.
