Malden is a city located in the state of Missouri, United States. It's found in the northeast part of Dunklin County, close to where two main roads, Missouri Route 25 and U.S. Route 62, meet. In 2020, about 3,706 people lived in Malden.

History of Malden
Malden was officially planned and laid out in 1877 by someone working for the railroad. There are a couple of ideas about how the city got its name. Some people think it was named after Colonel T. H. Mauldin, who was a judge in the county. Others believe the name came from a city called Malden, Massachusetts. A post office has been open in Malden since 1877, helping people send and receive mail.
Geography and Location
Malden is located in a unique area of Missouri known as the Missouri Bootheel. This area is also part of the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which means it's an area where earthquakes can happen. The city is about 23 miles (37 km) west of New Madrid and the Mississippi River. Malden is also found along the Crowley's Ridge Parkway, a scenic route. The city covers a total area of about 7.53 square miles (19.50 sq km), and all of it is land.

Most of the people in Malden were White (71.35%). About 25.12% were Black or African American. A small number were Native American, Asian, or from other backgrounds. About 1.92% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
About 31.6% of households had children under 18 living with them. The average household had 2.34 people, and the average family had 2.94 people. The median age in the city was 39.4 years old. About 25.1% of residents were under 18.
Transportation in Malden
Malden has one of the largest general aviation airports in Missouri. This means it can handle many types of private and corporate aircraft. The airport is important for national transportation. Its three 5,000-foot (1,500 m) runways can handle most corporate planes.
The Malden Municipal Airport used to be an Army airfield and then an Air Force base from 1942 to 1960. It was used to train pilots during World War II and the Korean War. The Malden Army Airfield Preservation Society (MAAPS) works to keep the history of the Malden Army Airfield alive. They have a Military Museum at the airport and a Veterans Wall of Honor.
The city also has the Dunklin County Transit Bus System. This bus system helps people travel throughout Malden and the areas nearby.
Education in Malden
Malden has a public school system called the Malden R-1 School District. Its sports teams are known as the Green Wave. The school has won state championships in Boys Track. The football team has also competed in state playoffs.
The Malden school system has been recognized as one of the top high schools in America. It was also ranked as the best school in southeast Missouri based on test scores in 2009-2010. The Malden School Board was named the Outstanding Board of the Year in 2011.
Malden also has two college campuses where students can take classes. One is from Three Rivers Community College, and the other is from Southeast Missouri State University. Malden also has a public library, which is part of the Dunklin County Library system.
Arts and Culture
Malden is home to the Bootheel Youth Museum. This museum offers hands-on activities for children. It has welcomed over 140,000 visitors and is a great resource for local schools. The museum won a National Award in 2012 and was named a top youth attraction in America.
