Early life
Mallika Sherawat was born as Reema Lamba in a small village in the Hisar district of Haryana, India. Her family is from the Jat community. Her father's name is Mukesh Kumar Lamba.
When she decided to become an actress, she chose the screen name "Mallika," which means "empress." She did this so people wouldn't get her confused with other actresses named Reema. She uses her mother's maiden name, "Sherawat," to honor the support her mother gave her.
At first, her family was not sure about her choice to enter the film industry. However, they later accepted her career, and they now have a good relationship.
For her education, Mallika went to Delhi Public School, Mathura Road. She later earned a degree in philosophy from Miranda House, a college at the Delhi University.
Career
Beginning in Bollywood
Before she became a movie star, Mallika appeared in TV commercials with famous actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. She also appeared in a few music videos. Her first film role was a small part in Jeena Sirf Merre Liye (2002), where she was credited by her real name, Reema Lamba.
She gained a lot of attention in 2003 with the film Khwahish. The next year, she starred in Murder (2004). In this film, she played a complex character named Simran. Her performance was praised by critics, and she was nominated for a 'Best Actress' award. The movie was a huge success and one of the biggest hits of the year.
Working in International Films

In 2005, Mallika starred in her first international movie, a Chinese film called The Myth. She acted alongside the world-famous action star Jackie Chan. She played an Indian princess who saves Jackie Chan's character. When she went to the Cannes Film Festival to promote the movie, she received a lot of positive attention from the global media.

Personal life
Before her acting career, Mallika was married to a pilot named Karan Singh Gill in 1997. They later divorced. She is also a vegan, which means she does not eat any animal products, including meat, dairy, or eggs.
In 2009, Mallika received honorary citizenship of Los Angeles for her career achievements and charity work.
Activism
Mallika is an activist for women's rights. In 2014, she spoke about issues affecting women at a United Nations conference.
She also supports animal welfare and other causes. During the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, she locked herself in a cage for 12 hours. She did this to raise awareness for an organization called Free A Girl India, which helps young girls.
