History of Malta
Malta got its start in the early 1880s. Back then, people living in the area didn't have a central place to get their mail. Mail was just left in open boxes.
How Malta Got Its Name
The Condit family helped change this. They got permission from the U.S. Post Office to open a post office and give the community a name. In 1883, the post office opened. The area reminded them of an island in a big ocean, so they named it Malta. This name comes from the actual island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea.
Local History Project
A special website was created as an Eagle Scout project. This website shares the history of many people buried in the Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta. It also has information and old yearbooks from Raft River High School.
