Manchester is a small village in Ontario County, New York, United States. It is part of the larger Town of Manchester. In 2010, about 1,709 people lived here. The village got its name from the city of Manchester in England.

The Village of Manchester is located in the southwest part of its town. It is just north of Canandaigua.

The History of Manchester Village

The area where Manchester Village now stands was first settled in 1793. This made it the very first settlement in the entire Town of Manchester.

The community was originally called "Coonsville." It was named after Valentine Coon, one of the first people to settle there. Later, when factories and making things became important, the name was changed to "Manchester." The village officially became a village in 1892.

Where is Manchester Located?

Manchester Village covers a total area of about 1.2 square miles (3.0 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

New York State Route 21 goes right through the village. Manchester is also located just south of the New York State Thruway (which is a major highway). You can find exit 43 of the Thruway near the village. Another road, New York State Route 96, is also close by.
