Maniema is one of the 26 provinces that make up the Democratic Republic of the Congo (often called the DRC). Its capital is a city called Kindu. Maniema is known for its rich natural resources, especially minerals.

How Maniema Was Formed
Maniema Province was created in 1989. Before that, it was part of a larger area called Kivu Province. Kivu Province was split into three new provinces: South Kivu, North Kivu, and Maniema. This change helped manage the different parts of the region better.

Maniema Province is located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It covers a large area of about 132,520 square kilometers.
