History of Mannford

The name "Mannford" comes from "Mann's Ford." This was a place where people could cross the Cimarron River. Tom and Hazel Mann owned land there.

Early Development and Railroad

Around 1902 and 1903, a railroad line was built through the area. This railroad was first called the Arkansas Valley and Western Railroad. Later, it became part of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, also known as "Frisco." The railroad made Mannford an important place for shipping cattle. A post office was opened in the town on April 11, 1903.
