Manoj Sinha (born 1 July 1959) is an important Indian politician. He is currently the second Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. This means he is in charge of the daily running of the region.
Before this role, he was a minister of state in the government of India. He worked in the Communications and Railways departments. Sinha was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for three terms. He represented the Ghazipur area in the Lok Sabha, which is a main part of India's Parliament. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Early Life and Education
Manoj Sinha was born on 1 July 1959. His birthplace was Mohanpura, a village in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, India.
He studied Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. This university was earlier known as IT-BHU. During his time as a student, he was the president of the students' union at Banaras Hindu University.
Journey into Politics
Sinha's political journey started when he became the president of the Banaras Hindu University Students Union in 1982. This was his first step into public service.
He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996. He was re-elected in 1999. The Lok Sabha is like the House of Commons in some other countries. He was also a member of the BJP national council from 1989 to 1996.
In 2014, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for a third time. This happened when the BJP won many seats in the national elections.
In May 2014, he became the Minister of State for Railways. This was part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first group of ministers. In July 2016, he also became the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Communications Ministry. This meant he was in charge of that ministry on his own.
Manoj Sinha is known for being a hard worker. He often keeps a low profile, meaning he doesn't seek a lot of attention. He has been recognized as one of the best-performing Members of Parliament. He used all his special funds (MPLAD Fund) to help the people in his area. He is good at connecting with people, especially in rural areas. He is also known as a strong leader.
Serving Jammu and Kashmir
On 7 August 2020, Manoj Sinha became the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The President of India appointed him to this important role. He took his oath of office on the same day.
Personal Life
Manoj Sinha is married to Neelam Sinha. They got married on 8 May 1977. They have two children, a daughter and a son named Abhinav Sinha.
