Carex multicaulis, also known as the manystem sedge, is a type of sedge plant. It grows naturally in California, western Nevada, and southern Oregon. You can often find it in chaparral areas and open forests, especially in mountain habitats.

What it Looks Like

This sedge looks a bit like a reed, growing in bunches. It has many thin stems that can reach up to 50 or 60 centimeters tall. That's about the height of a large ruler! Its leaves are short and can be folded or rolled.

The plant's flowers grow in a special arrangement called an inflorescence. At the top, you'll find a narrow cluster of spike-shaped male flowers, which are called staminate flowers. Below them, there's a group of more rounded female flowers, known as pistillate flowers. This setup helps the plant reproduce and make new seeds.
