Marcus Lavon Trufant (born December 25, 1980) is a former professional football player. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons. Marcus played college football for the Washington State Cougars. The Seattle Seahawks chose him as the 11th overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft.
From 2010 to 2012, Trufant helped guide the younger players in the Seahawks' defense. This group later became famous as the "Legion of Boom".

Early Life & High School Sports
Marcus Trufant grew up in Tacoma, Washington. He went to McCarver Elementary School and Truman Middle School. At Wilson High School in Tacoma, Marcus was a talented athlete. He earned a varsity letter in three sports: football, basketball, and track.
In track, he finished ninth in the state triple jump competition. As a senior, he was the team captain for two teams. In his junior year, he was named Offensive Player of the Year in football and Mr. Defense in basketball. During his senior year, he was recognized as an All-State player by many news groups. He scored 30 touchdowns and ran for 1,800 yards in offense. On defense, he made 48 tackles and 8 interceptions.
College Football Career
Trufant went to Washington State University. He was recruited by Washington State Cougars football head coach Mike Price. Marcus started for the Cougars all four years he was there. He was part of the team that played in the 2003 Rose Bowl. They lost to the Oklahoma Sooners in his senior year.
What's amazing is that he didn't allow a single touchdown against him in his last two years of college! As a freshman in 1999, he was chosen for the All-Pac-10 freshman team.

Professional Football Journey
Marcus Trufant was picked by the Seattle Seahawks as the 11th player overall in the 2003 NFL draft. Since he was from Tacoma and went to Washington State University, many fans in the area considered him a hometown hero.
Playing for the Seattle Seahawks
In 2007, Trufant was a very important part of the Seahawks' defense. He made a career-high 7 interceptions. He even returned one of them for an 84-yard touchdown! He also knocked down 15 passes and made 85 tackles. Because of his great performance, he was chosen to play in the 2008 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
On February 21, 2008, the Seahawks used their franchise tag on Trufant. This meant they offered him a special one-year contract. Later, on March 26, 2008, the Seahawks signed Trufant to a big new six-year contract.
On October 17, 2011, Trufant was placed on injured reserve because of an injury. This meant his season ended early. The Seahawks released Trufant on March 8, 2012. However, they re-signed him a month later, on April 9, 2012, for another one-year contract.
Time with the Jacksonville Jaguars
On May 7, 2013, Trufant signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This allowed him to work again with his former defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley. Marcus Trufant, Matt Hasselbeck, and Leroy Hill were the last players left from the Seahawks' amazing 2005 NFC Championship team. He was released by the Jaguars on August 30, 2013.
Retiring as a Seahawk
On April 23, 2014, Marcus Trufant signed a special one-day contract. This allowed him to officially retire as a Seattle Seahawk, the team where he spent most of his career.

Family Life
Marcus Trufant comes from a family of football players. His younger brother, Isaiah Trufant, also played in the NFL.
His youngest brother, Desmond Trufant, was chosen by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2013 NFL draft. Desmond started playing as a cornerback for the University of Washington in 2009 and continued to be a starter until his senior year in 2012.
