Marcus Trufant, born on December 25, 1980, is a former American football player. He was a talented cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for ten years. Marcus played college football for the Washington State Cougars. The Seattle Seahawks picked him as the 11th player overall in the 2003 NFL draft.

From 2010 to 2012, Marcus helped guide the younger players in the Seahawks' defense. This group became famous as the "Legion of Boom".

Early Life and High School Sports

Marcus grew up in Tacoma, Washington. He went to McCarver Elementary School and Truman Middle School. At Wilson High School in Tacoma, Marcus was a star athlete. He earned a varsity letter in three different sports. These sports were football, basketball, and track.

In track, he placed ninth in the state triple jump competition. He jumped an impressive 14.50 meters. As a junior, he was named Offensive Player of the Year in football. He was also Mr. Defense in basketball. In his senior year, he was a team captain for two teams. He was recognized as an All-State player by many news groups. He helped his team reach the State AAAA championship. Marcus scored 30 touchdowns and rushed for 1,800 yards in offense. On defense, he made 48 tackles and had 8 interceptions.

College Football Career

Marcus Trufant went to Washington State University. He was recruited by Mike Price, who was the Cougars' head coach at the time. Marcus started every game for all four years he played for the Cougars. He was part of the team that played in the 2003 Rose Bowl. They lost to the Oklahoma Sooners in his final year.

What's amazing is that no opposing player scored a touchdown against him in his last two years of college. As a freshman in 1999, he was chosen as an All-Pac-10 player.

In 2007, Marcus played a huge role in the Seahawks' defense. He caught a career-high 7 interceptions. One of these he returned 84 yards for a touchdown. He also blocked 15 passes and made 85 tackles. His great performance earned him a spot in the 2008 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

The Seahawks wanted to keep Marcus. On February 21, 2008, they used a special "franchise tag" on him. This meant he would play for them for one more year with a high salary. Then, on March 26, 2008, the Seahawks signed Marcus to a big new contract. It was a six-year deal worth $50.2 million.

In 2011, Marcus had to stop playing early due to an injury. The Seahawks released him in March 2012. But they quickly re-signed him a month later for another year.

Time with the Jacksonville Jaguars

On May 7, 2013, Marcus signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This reunited him with his old defensive coach, Gus Bradley. Marcus, along with Matt Hasselbeck and Leroy Hill, were the last players left from the Seahawks' amazing 2005 NFC Championship team. However, he was released by the Jaguars on August 30, 2013.

Retiring as a Seahawk

On April 23, 2014, Marcus Trufant signed a special one-day contract. This allowed him to officially retire as a Seattle Seahawk. It was a way for him to end his career with the team he played for the longest.

Family Life

Marcus Trufant comes from a family of football players. His younger brother, Isaiah Trufant, also played in the NFL.

His youngest brother, Desmond Trufant, was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2013 NFL draft. Desmond was a starting cornerback for the University of Washington from 2009 through 2012.
