Marcus Cornelius Washington (born October 17, 1977) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Marcus played college football for the Auburn Tigers. He was chosen by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2000 NFL draft. Later, he joined the Washington Redskins in 2004 and played there for five seasons.

Early Life and High School Sports
Marcus Washington grew up in Auburn, Alabama. He went to Auburn High School. There, he was a talented athlete. He played both basketball and football for his school teams.
College Football Career
After high school, Marcus went to Auburn University. In his final year at Auburn, he played as a defensive end. He was a strong player on the field. That season, he made seven sacks and 52 tackles. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
Professional Football Journey
Marcus Washington had a successful career in the NFL. He played for two main teams.
Playing for the Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts picked Marcus in the second round of the 2000 NFL draft. He was the 59th player chosen overall. He played as a linebacker for the Colts for four seasons. After these four years, the Colts could not offer him a new contract. This was because they needed to save money to re-sign their star quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Time with the Washington Redskins
Marcus Washington then signed with the Washington Redskins on March 5, 2004. He played for the Redskins for five years. During his time there, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2004. The Pro Bowl is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL. He was also named an alternate player for the Pro Bowl in 2005 and 2006. This means he was next in line to play if another player couldn't. The Redskins released him from the team on February 20, 2009.
Coaching After Playing
After his playing career, Marcus Washington became a coach. In 2016, he was the defensive line coach for the University of San Diego football team. That season, his team, the Toreros, had a very strong defense. They were ranked number one in their division for allowing the fewest points per game. They only allowed about 12.1 points per game during the regular season.
