Margie's Bodybuilding Journey
Starting Out as an Amateur
Even as a little girl, Margie dreamed of becoming a bodybuilder. She met famous bodybuilder Lee Haney at her church. She asked him how she could become a bodybuilder too. Margie's parents also loved to work out. She enjoyed watching strong women on TV shows like GLOW and American Gladiators. Characters like She-Ra and Tigress from ThunderCats also inspired her.
Margie started lifting weights when she was 13 years old. In high school, she was the only girl in her bodybuilding class. In 2007, she decided to try competing. She didn't know much about special diets at first. For almost six weeks, she only ate canned tuna and string beans! In her first competition, the Far East Armed Forces Bodybuilding Competition in Okinawa, Japan, she placed 5th.
In August 2012, Margie was named the NPC's Athlete of the Month. The next year, at the 2013 NPC USA Championships, she won first place in her weight class and overall. This win earned her an IFBB pro card, meaning she could now compete as a professional.
Becoming a Professional Bodybuilder
In 2014, Margie began her professional bodybuilding career. Her first pro show was the 2014 IFBB Toronto Pro Supershow, where she finished 4th. She then placed 2nd at the 2014 IFBB Omaha Pro. These results helped her qualify for the 2014 IFBB Ms. Olympia, where she placed 10th.
In 2015, Margie competed in five IFBB shows. She won 7th place and the "best poser" award at the 2015 IFBB Omaha Pro. She placed 5th at the 2015 IFBB Toronto Pro Supershow. At the 2015 IFBB Wings of Strength Chicago Pro, she was 8th and again won the "best poser" award. Her first professional win came at the 2015 IFBB Wings of Strength PBW Tampa Pro. This win qualified her for the 2015 IFBB Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships.
At the 2015 IFBB Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships, Margie won the very first Ms Rising Phoenix title. She also won the "best poser" award. The next year, at the 2016 IFBB Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships, she won the title for the second time in a row. Her coach during this time was P. D. Dever.
Margie did not compete at the 2017 Rising Phoenix World Championships. In 2018, she won the Toronto Pro Supershow. She then placed 2nd at the 2018 Rising Phoenix World Championships behind Alina Popa. In 2019, Margie won both the Toronto Pro and Omaha Pro shows. However, at the 2019 Rising Phoenix World Championships, she again placed 2nd, this time to Helle Trevino. After this, Margie decided to focus on the Ms. Olympia competition.
At the 2020 Ms. Olympia, Margie placed 2nd to Andrea Shaw. Andrea had just won the 2020 Rising Phoenix World Championships. In 2021, at the 2021 Ms. Olympia, Margie finished 3rd, with Helle Trevino in 2nd. Margie announced at the 2022 Ms. Olympia that it would be her last competition. She placed 4th in her final show.
