Markus Beyer (born April 28, 1971 – died December 3, 2018) was a famous German boxer. He was known for winning the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight world title three times!
Before he became a professional, Markus was a very successful amateur boxer. He even represented Germany in the Olympic Games twice, in 1992 and 1996. He also won a bronze medal at the World Amateur Boxing Championships and a silver medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championships.

Markus Beyer's Amateur Boxing Career
Markus Beyer had an amazing amateur boxing record. He won 235 out of 274 fights! That's a lot of wins!
Here are some of his big achievements as an amateur:
- 1988: He became the East German Featherweight Champion. He also won the Junior European Flyweight Championship in Poland.
- 1989: He placed second at the Junior World Championship in Puerto Rico.
- 1992: Markus competed in the Barcelona Olympics. He won his first fight but then lost to a boxer from Cuba.
- 1993: He became the German Light Middleweight Champion.
- 1995: He won the German Light Middleweight Champion title again. He also earned a bronze medal at the World Championship held in Berlin, Germany.
- 1996: He won a silver medal at the European Championship in Denmark. He also competed in the Atlanta Olympics, where he won two fights before losing in the quarterfinals.
Markus Beyer's Professional Boxing Career
Markus Beyer started his professional boxing journey and quickly became a top fighter.
On October 23, 1999, Markus won his first world title! He defeated Richie Woodhall to become the WBC super middleweight champion. He successfully defended his title once, but then lost it to Glenn Catley.
In 2003, Markus Beyer fought Eric Lucas for the WBC super middleweight title again. He won the fight and became a world champion for the second time! He defended his title against Danny Green and Andre Thysse. Then, he lost his title to Cristian Sanavia. But Markus didn't give up! He fought Sanavia again and won back his title by knockout.
After winning the title for the third time, Markus defended it five more times. He had impressive wins against boxers like Yoshinori Nishizawa, Danny Green (again!), Omar Sheika, and Alberto Colajanni. He also had a draw (a tie) against Sakio Bika.
His last title fight was on October 14, 2006. He faced Mikkel Kessler in a big fight to unify (combine) two world titles. Markus lost this fight by knockout in the third round.

In 2008, Markus Beyer married Daniela Haak. She is also known as Lady Danii from the music group Mr. President.
Sadly, Markus Beyer passed away on December 3, 2018, after a short and serious illness.
