Marshall Edward Newhouse (born September 29, 1988) is a former American football player. He played as an offensive tackle, which is a position on the offensive line. Marshall was chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the 2010 NFL draft. He later won Super Bowl XLV with the Packers. He also played for several other teams during his career. These teams included the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, and Tennessee Titans. Before playing professionally, he played college football at TCU.

Early Life and High School Sports

Marshall Newhouse grew up in Dallas, Texas. He went to Lake Highlands High School. There, he was a talented athlete in several sports.

Football Achievements

Marshall played football for two years in high school. In his senior year, he was named first-team all-district 10-5A. He also earned the Offensive Line MVP award. He was recognized as Lake Highlands' Most Outstanding Offensive Blocker.

Track & Field and Weightlifting

Besides football, Marshall also competed in track & field. He was a champion in the shot put event. In 2006, he won the UIL Texas State shot put championship. He also participated in weightlifting and powerlifting. In 2005, he finished third in the state championships for weightlifting.

School Activities

Marshall was also active in school clubs. He was a member of the Horticulture Society. He also joined the Japanese Club. He has an older brother named John Newhouse.

College Football Career at TCU

Marshall Newhouse played college football for the Texas Christian University (TCU) team. He showed great skill and leadership during his time there.

Freshman Year Success

In his first year at TCU, Marshall was the only true freshman to play on offense. He made 10 "knockdown blocks" during the season. A knockdown block is when an offensive lineman blocks a defender so well that the defender falls down. His first college game was a 17–7 win against Baylor.

Sophomore and Junior Years

During his sophomore year, Marshall was recognized as an honorable-mention All-Mountain West Conference player. He started all 13 games as the left tackle. He led the TCU team in knockdown blocks and overall blocking performance. In his junior year, he was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference. He started every game at left tackle for the second year in a row. This meant he had started 26 games in a row.

Senior Year Highlights

In his senior year, Marshall was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference. Because of his excellent performance, he was invited to the NFL Combine. This event allows college players to show their skills to professional teams. He also played in the East-West Shrine Game, an all-star game for college players. He was considered one of the best offensive linemen in Texas. He also received All-American honors from different sports groups.

Green Bay Packers (2010–2013)

The Green Bay Packers chose Marshall in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. He signed his first professional contract with them in June 2010.

Marshall did not play in any games during his first year. He was placed on injured reserve at the end of the season. In 2011, he became the starting left tackle for the Packers. He started 13 games that season. The Packers had a fantastic year, winning 15 games and losing only one. Marshall continued to be the starting left tackle for all 16 regular season games in 2012. He also played in two playoff games that year.

Cincinnati Bengals (2014)

In March 2014, Marshall signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.

New York Giants (2015–2016)

Marshall joined the New York Giants in March 2015. He played for them for two seasons.

Oakland Raiders (2017)

In March 2017, Marshall signed a two-year contract with the Oakland Raiders. He started 14 games as the right tackle for the Raiders in 2017. He was released by the Raiders in March 2018.

Buffalo Bills (2018)

Marshall signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills in March 2018. He competed for a backup tackle role. He often came into games for special plays, like when the team needed to gain a short distance.

Carolina Panthers (2018)

In September 2018, Marshall was traded to the Carolina Panthers. He played in 11 games for the Panthers. He started two of those games as the left tackle.

New Orleans Saints (2019)

Marshall signed with the New Orleans Saints in May 2019. He was placed on injured reserve in August but was released the next day.

New England Patriots (2019)

In September 2019, Marshall signed with the New England Patriots. He started nine games for the Patriots that year. He started one game at right tackle and then eight games in a row at left tackle.

Tennessee Titans (2020)

Marshall Newhouse joined the Tennessee Titans practice squad in November 2020. He was temporarily moved to the active roster for one game in December. He was then signed to the active roster permanently in December 2020.
