Lars Martin Jørgensen (born October 6, 1975) is a famous Danish former football player. He mostly played as a midfielder. Martin Jørgensen played professional football for 20 years. He played for clubs in his home country, Denmark, and also for teams in Italy.

He played for the Danish national team 102 times and scored 12 goals. He represented Denmark in three FIFA World Cup tournaments. He also played in two European Championship tournaments. After his playing career, he started working as a scout for the club AGF. Martin is the older brother of another retired Danish football player, Mads Jørgensen.

Starting His Club Journey

Martin Jørgensen was born in Ryomgård, Denmark. He began his football journey at a local club called IF Midtdjurs. In 1989, when he was a teenager, he moved to AGF. His talent was quickly noticed. He was chosen to play for various Danish youth national teams starting in 1991.

Martin made his first senior team appearance for AGF on May 8, 1994. He was part of the AGF team that won the Danish Cup in 1996. This was a big achievement for the club.

Playing in Italy

In April 1997, Martin moved to Italy to play for Udinese in Serie A. This is one of Italy's top football leagues. He helped Udinese finish third in the league during the 1997–98 season. He played for Udinese for seven years.

In August 2004, Martin moved to another Italian club, Fiorentina. He quickly became a very important player for their attacking game. Fans loved him because of his strong performances. He often played as an attacking midfielder. Sometimes, he even played as a right-back. He scored important goals, including two in the UEFA Cup against IF Elfsborg. He also helped Fiorentina win a big match against Juventus in 2008.

Martin faced some muscle injuries during the 2008–09 season. Despite this, he signed a new contract to stay with Fiorentina until June 2010. He scored a crucial goal in the last minute against Lecce. This goal helped Fiorentina get a spot in the UEFA Champions League. On December 9, 2009, he scored his first ever Champions League goal against Liverpool at their home stadium, Anfield. This win helped Fiorentina finish first in their group.

Returning Home and Retirement

On January 31, 2010, Martin Jørgensen returned to his childhood club, AGF, in Denmark. He played for AGF for a few more years. On November 11, 2014, Martin announced that he would retire from playing football by the end of that year.

Playing for Denmark

Martin Jørgensen was a very active player for Denmark's youth teams. In 1996, he was named the Danish under-21 Player of the Year. He played a record 31 games for the Danish under-21 national team. He scored nine goals for them.

He made his debut for the senior Danish national team on March 25, 1998. This was in a match against Scotland. He was chosen to play for Denmark in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. This tournament helped him become well-known internationally. He played in all five of Denmark's matches. He scored the first goal in their quarter-final game against Brazil. Denmark lost that game 3–2.

Martin also played for Denmark in the 2000 European Championship. He played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup as well. He played in all three group stage matches before an injury stopped him from playing further. He also played in all four of Denmark's matches at the 2004 European Championship.

After the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he announced he would retire from international football. However, he returned to play one more game in September 2011. This was a Euro 2012 qualifier against Norway.

Life After Playing

In late 2014, Martin Jørgensen became an assistant manager at his former club, AGF. He held this role for six months. After fully retiring as a player, he became the coach for AGF's U14 team in January 2015.

One month later, he also took on a role as an assistant manager for the Danish national team. In the summer of 2015, his role at AGF changed. He became a scout for the club. He continued as an assistant manager for the national team until January 2016.
