Marvin Darnell Harrison Jr. (born August 11, 2002) is an American professional football player. He plays as a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football at Ohio State University. There, he was recognized as a top player, earning the Fred Biletnikoff Award in 2023. He was also named a unanimous All-American twice, a rare achievement in college football. The Cardinals chose him as the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Marvin Harrison Jr. is the son of Marvin Harrison, a famous wide receiver who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Early life and High School Success

Marvin Harrison Jr. was born on August 11, 2002, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His dad, Marvin Harrison, was a legendary wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts. He played in the NFL from 1996 to 2008 and is now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Growing up, Marvin Jr. played both football and basketball. When he started high school, he decided to focus only on football. He first attended La Salle College High School. Later, he moved to St. Joseph's Preparatory School. At St. Joseph's, he helped his team win three state championships in a row. He also set new records for the Philadelphia Catholic League. He gained 2,625 receiving yards and scored 37 receiving touchdowns. While at St. Joseph's, he played alongside Kyle McCord, who would later be his teammate at Ohio State.

After high school, Marvin was considered one of the best receiver recruits in the country. He chose to play college football at Ohio State University. He picked Ohio State over many other big schools like Florida, Michigan, and Penn State. He liked the school's atmosphere and facilities. He also had a good relationship with Ohio State's wide receiver coach, Brian Hartline, and his friend Kyle McCord.

2021 Season: A Strong Start

As a freshman in 2021, Marvin didn't play much at first. He was behind other great receivers who later joined the NFL. But he got his big chance in the 2022 Rose Bowl. This was after two of the main receivers left to join the NFL draft. In that game, he caught six passes for 71 yards. He also scored three touchdowns, helping Ohio State win 48–45 against the Utah Utes. This game showed everyone what he could do!

2022 Season: Becoming a Star

After his amazing Rose Bowl game, Marvin had high hopes for his sophomore year. In the first game against Notre Dame, he caught five passes for 76 yards. When another receiver got injured, Marvin became Ohio State's top receiver for the rest of the season.

In his first game as the main receiver, he caught seven passes for 184 yards. He also scored three touchdowns in a win against Arkansas State. The next week, he had another great game with 102 yards and two touchdowns against Toledo. He continued to shine, catching seven passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns against Michigan State. Scoring three touchdowns in a game three times was a record for an Ohio State receiver!

Marvin set new personal bests against Penn State. He caught 10 passes for 185 yards in a 44–31 victory. He had another 100-yard game against Indiana. Even in a loss to rival Michigan, he gained over 100 yards.

Ohio State made it to the College Football Playoff. They played against the defending champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, in the 2022 Peach Bowl. Marvin played incredibly well in the first half. He caught five passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. This helped Ohio State get a big lead. However, he had to leave the game in the third quarter due to an injury. Without him, Georgia made a comeback and won the game 42–41.

At the end of the season, Marvin was named a unanimous All-American. This means he was chosen by all major groups as one of the best players. He also won the Richter–Howard Receiver of the Year award. He finished the season with 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns.

2023 Season: Top Receiver in College Football

Going into the 2023 season, many people thought Marvin was the best receiver in college football. He proved them right by winning the 2023 Fred Biletnikoff Award. This award goes to the best wide receiver in college football. He had 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns that season. After the season, he decided to enter the 2024 NFL draft.

During his college career, Marvin Harrison Jr. had 150 receptions for 2,495 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also had 4 rushes for 58 yards and 1 touchdown.

Professional Football Career

2024 Season: Joining the Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals picked Marvin Harrison Jr. as the fourth overall player in the 2024 NFL draft. This was a huge moment for him! On May 23, 2024, he signed his first professional contract. It was a four-year deal worth $35.3 million.

In his first NFL game against the Buffalo Bills, he caught one pass for four yards. But in his second game against the Los Angeles Rams, he really shined! He caught four passes for 130 yards and scored two touchdowns, all in the first quarter. The Cardinals won that game easily, 41–10. In Week 6, he had to leave a game against the Green Bay Packers early due to an injury.

As of the end of the 2024 season, Marvin Harrison Jr. has played in 17 NFL games, starting 16 of them. He has caught 62 passes for 885 yards and scored 8 touchdowns.

Personal Life

Marvin Harrison Jr. is a Christian. He also works with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. This charity helps families with sick children. During his college days, a sportscaster named Gus Johnson gave him the nickname "Maserati Marv."
