The sixth season of MasterChef Canada was a super exciting cooking competition! It started with a special two-hour show on April 8, 2019, on CTV. The season ended on June 10, 2019, when Jennifer Crawford from Kingston, Nova Scotia was crowned the winner. Andre Bhagwandat from Scarborough, Ontario was the runner-up. Jennifer Crawford made history as the first non-binary winner and the first person from the Maritimes region to win the competition.
This season had a new twist! Each of the three judges picked six home cooks to invite to the Top 18. These lucky cooks received special invitations delivered right to their homes. Andre Bhagwandat, who was the runner-up, later returned for MasterChef Canada: Back to Win and placed 7th.

The Top 18 home cooks were invited to the MasterChef kitchen in Toronto. They competed in groups based on which judge invited them. Alvin's group cooked with chicken, Michael's group cooked with beef, and Claudio's group cooked with shrimp. The best cooks from each group earned a white apron, moving them into the main competition.

Mystery Box 1: The first challenge used root vegetables. Jennifer, Cryssi, and Jenny made the best dishes, and Jenny won! Elimination Test 1: Jenny was safe and saved Cryssi and Jennifer. Pressure Test 1: The Blue Team faced a Pressure Test. They had to bake two cheesecakes: one sweet and one savory. Jennifer made the best cheesecakes and was safe. Colin was eliminated because his savory cheesecake wasn't good. |

Mystery Box 2: The cooks saw their teenage photos! They had to cook an improved version of their favorite teenage dish. Josh won this challenge. Elimination Test 2: Josh was safe. The challenge was all about spices. Cooks picked boxes with different spices, and some boxes gave immunity. Jennifer and Andre made the best dishes. Tony was sent home because he made another Italian pasta dish and didn't show enough variety. |

Team Challenge 2: The Top 8 cooks prepared school lunches for 161 kids! Jennifer and Andre were team captains. The Red Team won with more votes. Pressure Test 2: Andre, Rozin, Jenny, and Cryssi had to make a Spanish seafood dish called Fideuà in just 20 minutes. Andre and Cryssi did great. Rozin was eliminated because his dish was missing parts and his squid was raw. |

Mystery Box 3: Cooks chose between a clear box with known ingredients or a secret box with unknown, exotic ingredients. Cryssi won this challenge. Elimination Test 3: The challenge was to use fancy East Asian ingredients. Cryssi got to assign ingredients to everyone. Jennifer made the best dish. Jenny and Alyssa were eliminated, but the judges hinted their journey wasn't over. |

Jenny and Alyssa faced Rozin and Tony in a "redemption challenge" to get back into the competition. They had three knife skill tests. Redemption Challenge Part 1: They had to julienne (cut into thin strips) vegetables for a rice noodle salad. Alyssa was eliminated. Redemption Challenge Part 2: The remaining three had to filet a Dover sole fish. Jenny was eliminated. Redemption Challenge Part 3: Rozin and Tony battled to trim and cook a rack of lamb. Rozin won and earned his spot back in the competition! |

Pressure Test 3: Both teams had to face the Pressure Test. Josh saved Jennifer, and Cryssi saved Andre. The challenge was to recreate the judges' favorite breakfast dishes. Cryssi made the best breakfast trio and was safe. Rozin was eliminated again because his dishes had many problems. |

Mystery Box 4: The Top 5 cooks found their loved ones (boyfriend, sister, husband, wife, aunt) inside a giant mystery box! Their loved ones did most of the cooking, with the cooks coaching them. Andre and his aunt won this challenge. Elimination Test 4: The challenge was tropical fruits. Andre, as the winner, chose to make a savory dish with passion fruit. The others spun a wheel to get their fruit and dish type. Andre made the best dish. Chanelle was eliminated. |

Team Challenge 4: The final four cooks went to the Canadian Canoe Museum. They worked in pairs to create a three-course meal honoring Indigenous agriculture and the Three Sisters (corn, beans, squash). Andre picked Jennifer as his teammate, and they won, moving straight to the semifinals! Pressure Test 4: Cryssi and Josh faced off for the last spot in the semifinals. They had to recreate a difficult tempered chocolate sphere dessert. Josh did very well, but Cryssi struggled with her chocolate. Cryssi was sent home, and Josh advanced. |

Mystery Box 5: Olympic ice dancer Tessa Virtue was a special guest! The three semifinalists had to make a dramatic "Fire and Ice" dish using cool cooking techniques. Andre made the best dish. Elimination Test 5: Andre, Jennifer, and Josh had to create a three-course menu using different Canadian cheeses. Andre chose goat cheese, Jennifer got cheddar cheese, and Josh got blue cheese. Jennifer made the best dishes and earned the first spot in the finale. Andre also advanced, and Josh was eliminated. |

Jennifer and Andre competed in a three-hour, three-course cooking battle to become MasterChef Canada! They had to make an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. For the appetizer, Andre made a Caribbean lobster dish, and Jennifer made a fancy version of "ants on a log." For the main course, Jennifer created a lamb dish inspired by "Mary's Little Lamb," while Andre made a Caribbean-Korean fusion curried goat. For dessert, Andre made a deconstructed Filipino dessert called turon, and Jennifer made an elevated version of breakfast cereal treats. Both cooks showed amazing flavors and creativity. The judges thought about their whole journey and named Jennifer Crawford the winner of MasterChef Canada Season 6! |
