Matt Ellison, born on December 8, 1983, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played as a right winger. The Chicago Blackhawks picked him in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Blackhawks' minor teams and had some time in the National Hockey League (NHL).
In 2005, he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. After 2008, Matt moved to Europe. He became well-known for playing in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He retired from playing professional hockey in 2019.

Matt Ellison's Hockey Journey
Matt Ellison started his hockey career with the Cowichan Valley Capitals. This was a junior hockey team in the BCHL. He joined them in the 1999–2000 season. In his first year, he was named the team's Co-Rookie of the Year.
He played for the Capitals for three years. He won several awards there. He was the team's MVP and led them in scoring. He scored 66 points in 2000–01 and 117 points in 2001–02. The Chicago Blackhawks then drafted him in the fourth round in 2002. He was the 128th player chosen overall.
Playing in the WHL and AHL
After being drafted, Matt played for the Red Deer Rebels. This team is part of the WHL. He played there during the 2002–03 season. Then, he joined the Norfolk Admirals for the 2003–04 season. The Admirals are in the AHL.
He played two seasons with the Norfolk Admirals. He was then called up to play for the Blackhawks. This happened at the start of the 2005–06 NHL season.
Moving to Other NHL Teams
On December 5, 2005, Matt was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. He spent most of his time in Philadelphia playing for the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Phantoms were the Flyers' minor league team. On June 4, 2007, he was traded again. This time, he went to the Nashville Predators.
Playing Hockey in Europe
On July 4, 2008, Matt Ellison signed a one-year contract. He joined Dinamo Riga in Latvia. This team plays in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He scored 39 points in 55 games for Riga in the 2008–09 season. He was second in scoring for his team.
On August 4, 2009, he signed with another KHL team, HC MVD. After three successful seasons with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, Matt left the KHL. He signed a one-year contract with a Swiss team, EHC Biel. This team is in the NLA. This happened on June 26, 2013.
Matt later left Biel and went back to the KHL. He played for KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the 2013–14 season. In 2014, Ellison signed a two-year contract. He joined Belarusian club, HC Dinamo Minsk. He played for them starting in the 2014–15 season.
He had three great seasons with Minsk. He was the top scorer for the team in his last two years there. As a free agent, he signed a two-year contract. He joined a bigger Russian team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk. This happened on June 7, 2017. He played for them until he retired in 2019.
