Maurice "Moe" Roberts (born December 13, 1905 – died February 7, 1975) was an American professional ice hockey goaltender. A goaltender is the player who tries to stop the puck from going into their team's net. Moe Roberts played for several teams during his career.

He is especially remembered for holding two unique records in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was once the youngest goalie to play in the NHL. Later, he became the oldest player ever to play in an NHL game.

Moe Roberts' Hockey Journey

Moe Roberts played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for four years. He was a goalie for the Boston Bruins, New York Americans, and Chicago Black Hawks.

Before and after his time in the NHL, Roberts played for many other teams. These teams were in different hockey leagues. Some of these teams included the New Haven Eagles and Philadelphia Arrows. He also played for the Cleveland Falcons and Pittsburgh Hornets.

Youngest and Oldest Goalie

Moe Roberts holds a special place in NHL history. For many years, he was known for being both the youngest and the oldest goaltender in the league.

On December 8, 1925, Roberts played his first game for the Boston Bruins. He was only 19 years old. This made him the youngest goalie to ever play in an NHL game at that time. Another player, Harry Lumley, broke this record 20 years later.

Roberts' last NHL game was on November 25, 1951. He was working as an assistant trainer for the Chicago Black Hawks. The team's main goalie, Harry Lumley, got injured during the game. Roberts, at 45 years old, had to step in and play the third period. He didn't let any goals in! Even so, the Hawks lost the game 5-2 to the Detroit Red Wings.

By playing at age 45, Roberts became the oldest player to ever play in an NHL game. This record was later broken by Gordie Howe and then Chris Chelios. However, Moe Roberts is still the oldest goaltender to play in an NHL game. He was also the last NHL player who had been active in the 1920s.

Hall of Fame Recognition

Moe Roberts stopped playing professional ice hockey in 1947. His long career and unique records were recognized many years later. In 2005, he was honored by being inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. This is a special place for hockey legends.
