Maxwell Trowbridge Gail Jr. (born April 5, 1943) is an American actor. He has starred in many plays, TV shows, and movies. He is best known for playing Detective Stan "Wojo" Wojciehowicz on the TV show Barney Miller from 1975 to 1982. This role earned him two big awards nominations.
Max Gail also won the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2019 and 2021. He won these awards for his role as Mike Corbin on the soap opera General Hospital.

Early Life and First Roles
Max Gail was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 5, 1943. He grew up in Grosse Ile, Michigan. He has a twin sister named Mary Gail, who is also an actress. He also has another sister, Emily T. Gail.
He went to Williams College and earned a degree. Later, he got a business degree from the University of Michigan. Before becoming an actor, Gail taught at a school. His first acting job was in 1970 in San Francisco. He played Chief Bromden in the play One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. In 1973, he played this same role in New York City.
Max Gail's Acting Career

Max Gail is most famous for his TV role as Detective Stan "Wojo" Wojciehowicz. He played this character in the TV show Barney Miller from 1975 to 1982. In movies, he is well-known for his role as Harold in D.C. Cab (1983). Harold was the owner of the D.C. Cab taxi company. Max Gail also directed several episodes of Barney Miller.
In 1984, Gail performed in a play called The Babe on Broadway. This play was about a famous baseball player. It was later shown on TV. Gail has also starred in other TV series. He was Llewellan Farley Jr. in Whiz Kids (1983). In this show, he played an investigative reporter who was friends with young computer hackers. He also appeared in Sons & Daughters (2006).
Gail has made many guest appearances on popular TV shows. Some of these include Hawaii Five-0, NCIS, Scorpion, and Mad Men.
In 2013, Gail played Brooklyn Dodgers baseball manager Burt Shotton in the movie 42. This film was about Jackie Robinson's first years playing major-league baseball.
Max Gail also runs a company called Full Circle. This company makes documentaries about important topics. These topics include Agent Orange, Native Americans, and nuclear issues.
In 2015, he was nominated for Best Actor at the Los Angeles International Film Festival. This was for his role in a short film called In Memory.
From 2018 to 2021, Gail played Mike Corbin on General Hospital. He won the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor for this role in 2019 and 2021.
Max Gail's Family Life
Max Gail's first wife, Willie Bier, passed away in 1986. They had a daughter named India. This experience led Gail to narrate a film about alternative medicine.
He later married Nan, and they had two children, Maxwell and Grace. They separated in 2000. Since 2007, he has been in a relationship with Chris Kaul.
His daughter, Grace Gail, became a model. She married actor Adam Rodriguez in 2016. They have three children together.
