Maytown has an interesting history. It is famous for being the hometown of Simon Cameron. He was an important politician in the 1800s. Simon Cameron even worked in the government of President Abraham Lincoln.

The Grove Mansion is a historic building in Maytown. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This list includes places important to the history of the country.

Another notable person from Maytown was William H. Strayer. He was born in Maytown in 1847. William H. Strayer earned the Congressional Medal of Honor. This is the highest award for bravery a person can receive in the U.S. military. He received it in 1872, along with William F. Cody (also known as Buffalo Bill).

Another important road, Pennsylvania Route 441, runs along the southern edge of Maytown. This road leads northwest to Middletown (about 14 miles). It also goes southeast to Columbia (about 6 miles).

Lancaster is the main city of the county. It is about 15 miles east of Maytown. You can get there by taking Routes 441 and 23.

Maytown covers an area of about 9.5 square kilometers (about 3.68 square miles). Most of this area is land. A very small part is water. The water in the community flows into small streams that lead to the Susquehanna River.
