Early Life and Education

McKinley Belcher was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the first son of McKinley Belcher Jr. and Pamela McGhee Belcher. His family later moved to Powder Springs. There, he went to elementary and middle school.

He graduated from Campbell High School in Smyrna, Georgia, in 2002. At high school, he was part of the International Baccalaureate program. He also ran track and cross country.

After high school, he attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned a degree in Communication Studies and Political Science in 2006. At Belmont, he was on the Speech and Debate Team. He won awards for his debating and speaking skills. Later, he went to USC School of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. He earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Acting in 2010.

Theatre Roles

Belcher performed in Romeo and Juliet in 2013. This was an Off-Broadway play at Classic Stage Company. In 2016, he won a Drama Desk Award. This award was for his role as Fish in The Royale at Lincoln Center. He also played Sam in Rear Window in 2015. In this play, he acted alongside Kevin Bacon.

In 2017, Belcher played two roles, Teddy and Nicholas, in A Guide for the Homesick. He won an Elliot Norton Award and an IRNE Award for his acting. In 2019, he was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for his role in The Light.
