Mehrdad Mohammadi was born in Tehran, Iran. However, his family comes from Qazvin Province. They are part of the Iranian Azerbaijani community. His family is originally from a village called Kashmarz.

Mehrdad Mohammadi has played for several football clubs. He started his professional career in Iran before moving to play in other countries.
Playing for Rah Ahan
Mehrdad signed his first professional contract with Rah Ahan in 2014. Before that, he played for Oghab Tehran U21. In 2016, he turned down an offer from Esteghlal. This was because he supported their rival team, Persepolis.
Time with Sepahan
On June 14, 2016, Mehrdad joined Sepahan. He signed a five-year contract with the club. He also had offers from Persepolis and Paykan at that time.
Playing for Desportivo Aves
Mehrdad moved to Europe and joined Desportivo Aves in Portugal in May 2019. However, his time there ended in July 2020. He left the club because they had not paid him for three months.
Moving to Al-Arabi
