History of the Station
Melbourne Central Station opened a long time ago. It started operating on January 24, 1981. When it first opened, it was known by a different name: Museum Station. This was because the Melbourne Museum used to be located across the street from the station, at the State Library of Victoria. When the museum moved to a new location, the station's name was changed to Melbourne Central.
