Michael E. Costa (born around 1948) is a former American college football coach. He was the head football coach at two universities. These were Cheyney University of Pennsylvania from 1985 to 1989. He also coached at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 2002 to 2014.

Michael Costa's Early Life and Playing Days

Michael Costa grew up in Flushing, Queens. He went to Flushing High School. After high school, he played college football as a defensive back. He started playing at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas.

Later, he moved to Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Norfolk State in 1971. In 1981, he earned a master's degree. This degree was in health and physical education. He got it from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Michael Costa's Coaching Journey

Costa began his coaching career at a high school. He was an assistant football coach at Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Delaware. He coached there from 1972 to 1981. Besides football, he also coached basketball, track, and swimming.

In 1982, he started coaching at the college level. He became an assistant football coach at Cheyney University. He worked under head coach Andy Hinson. As an assistant head coach and defensive back coach, he helped train Andre Waters. Andre Waters later played in the National Football League (NFL).

Costa took over as Cheyney's head football coach in 1985. He coached there until 1989. Later, he became the head coach at St. Augustine's University. He coached the St. Augustine's Falcons from 2002 until the first game of the 2014 season.

He finished his coaching career as an assistant coach. He worked with the Christopher Newport team. Over his career, his overall record as a head coach was 41 wins and 104 losses.
