Michael Hudson (born 1834 – died December 28, 1891) was a brave sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the American Civil War. Michael Hudson received the Medal of Honor for his amazing actions. This special award was given to him after the Battle of Mobile Bay.

Michael Hudson's Early Life
Michael Hudson was born in 1834 in County Sligo, Ireland. When he was older, he moved to the United States. He joined the Marine Corps in Brooklyn on September 12, 1861.
Joining the Marines
Michael Hudson became a sergeant. He was part of the Marine group on the ship USS Brooklyn. This ship was sent to fight in the American Civil War.
Heroism at Mobile Bay
On August 5, 1864, a big battle happened. It was called the Battle of Mobile Bay. The Brooklyn and other ships fought against forts and gunboats. These were controlled by the Confederate side.
The Battle Unfolds
During the battle, the Brooklyn was hit hard. Many parts of the ship were damaged. Even with the danger, Sergeant Hudson kept fighting. The battle lasted for two hours.
Victory and Honor
The Union ships won the battle. The Confederate ship CSS Tennessee had to surrender. For his courage, Michael Hudson received the Medal of Honor. This is the highest award for bravery in the U.S. military. He received it on December 31, 1864.
Life After the War
Michael Hudson was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. This happened on October 25, 1865. He had served his country well. Michael Hudson passed away on December 28, 1891.
