Michael Konsel's Club Football Journey
Michael Konsel was born in Vienna, Austria. He started his professional football career with a team called First Vienna. In 1985, he moved to a bigger local team, Rapid Wien.
He became a very important part of the successful Rapid Wien team in the 1980s. With them, he won the Austrian League title two times. He also played in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup Final in 1985. His team lost 3–1 to Everton in that game.
Konsel stayed with Rapid Wien for 12 years. In his last two seasons, he was the team's captain. In 1996, he played in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup Final again. This time, Rapid Wien lost 1–0 to Paris Saint-Germain.
In 1997, when he was 35 years old, Konsel moved to Italy. He joined the Italian team A.S. Roma in Serie A. At first, not many people in Italy knew about him. But his amazing performances quickly made him famous. In his first year with Roma, he was chosen as the best goalkeeper and the best foreign player of the season.
After having some injuries in his second year in Rome, he finished his playing career. He played one last season with Venezia.

Michael Konsel first played for the Austrian national team in October 1985. This was a friendly match against Yugoslavia.
He also played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments. He was part of the team for the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the 1998 FIFA World Cup. In 1990, he was a back-up goalkeeper. But in 1998, he was the main goalkeeper for Austria.
