Míchael Umaña Corrales (born 16 July 1982) is a former professional footballer from Costa Rica. He played as a defender. Umaña played over 100 games for the Costa Rica national team.

Míchael Umaña's Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Míchael Umaña was born in Santa Ana, Costa Rica. He started his football career playing for teams in his home country. These teams included Carmelita and Herediano.
In 2005, he moved to the United States. He played for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS) for a short time. After this, he returned to Costa Rica to play for Brujas. He later went back to Herediano.
Umaña then joined Liberia Mia in 2007. He played there for three seasons.
Playing for Chivas USA
In 2009, Umaña helped Liberia Mia win the Torneo Verano. This was a championship in the Primera División de Costa Rica. After this success, he returned to the United States in 2010. He joined Chivas USA, another MLS team.
He scored his first goal for Chivas USA in a Superliga 2010 match. This was against a team called Puebla. Umaña played for Chivas USA during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Moving to Central America
After leaving Chivas USA in January 2012, Umaña signed with Comunicaciones. This team is from Guatemala. A year later, he went back to Costa Rica. He joined the team Saprissa.
Playing in Iran with Persepolis
On August 17, 2014, Umaña joined Persepolis. This team is in Iran. He was the first player from Costa Rica to play football in Iran. He signed a two-year contract with the club. He wore the number 4 jersey.
Umaña played his first game for Persepolis on August 25. It was a 1–1 draw against Padideh.
Míchael Umaña's International Career

Umaña played for the Costa Rica national team at different youth levels. He was part of the team that played in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
He made his first game for the senior national team in June 2004. This was a friendly match against Nicaragua. By October 2017, he had played 103 games for Costa Rica and scored one goal.
He played in the 2005 UNCAF Nations Cup and the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He then joined the senior squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification. Umaña played in all three of Costa Rica's group matches at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, the team was eliminated without winning any points.
World Cup 2014 Highlights
In June 2014, Umaña was chosen for Costa Rica's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In the first two group games, he and his fellow defenders, Giancarlo González and Óscar Duarte, played very well. They only allowed one goal. Los Ticos (the nickname for the Costa Rica team) beat Uruguay (3–1) and Italy (1–0). These wins helped them move to the knockout stage.
In the Round of 16, Umaña scored the winning penalty kick. This happened in a 5–3 penalty shoot-out against Greece. This win sent Costa Rica to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-final against the Netherlands, Umaña's penalty kick was saved. Costa Rica lost the shoot-out 3–4.
Míchael Umaña's Personal Life
Míchael Umaña is the youngest of three brothers. His brother Erick also played football in Costa Rica's second division.
