Míchael Umaña Corrales, born on July 16, 1982, is a former professional footballer from Costa Rica. He played as a defender. Umaña is well-known for playing over 100 games for the Costa Rica national team.

Playing for Football Clubs
Starting His Career
Míchael Umaña was born in Santa Ana, Costa Rica. He began his football journey playing for teams like Carmelita and Herediano in his home country. In 2005, he moved to the United States. He played for Los Angeles Galaxy on a temporary loan.
After his time with Galaxy in 2005, Umaña went back to Costa Rica. He joined Brujas. In 2006, he returned to Herediano. Later, he moved to Liberia Mia in 2007. He played there for three seasons.
Playing for Chivas USA
In 2009, Umaña helped Liberia Mia win the Torneo Verano, a major championship in Costa Rica. After this success, he returned to the United States in 2010. He joined Chivas USA, a team in Major League Soccer. Umaña scored his first goal for Chivas USA in a game against Puebla. He played for Chivas USA during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Playing in Central America
In January 2012, Umaña left Chivas USA. He signed with Comunicaciones, a team in Guatemala. A year later, he came back to Costa Rica. He joined Saprissa, another well-known club.
Playing for Persepolis
On August 17, 2014, Umaña moved to Iran to play for Persepolis. He was the first Costa Rican footballer to play in Iran. He signed a two-year contract and wore the number 4 jersey. His first game for Persepolis was on August 25, which ended in a 1–1 draw.
Playing for His Country

Umaña represented Costa Rica at different youth levels. He was part of the team that played in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
He played his first senior game for Costa Rica in June 2004 against Nicaragua. By October 2017, he had played 103 games for his country and scored one goal. He played in the 2005 UNCAF Nations Cup and the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was also a key player for Costa Rica in the qualifying games for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. At the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he played in all three group matches.
In June 2014, Umaña was chosen to be part of Costa Rica's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In the first two group games, he and his fellow defenders, Giancarlo González and Óscar Duarte, played very well. They only allowed one goal. Costa Rica won against Uruguay (3–1) and Italy (1–0). This helped them reach the knockout stage of the tournament.
In the Round of 16, Costa Rica played against Greece. The game went to a penalty shoot-out. Umaña scored Costa Rica's fifth penalty kick, helping his team win 5–3. In the quarter-final against the Netherlands, the game also went to a penalty shoot-out. Umaña's shot was saved by the Dutch goalkeeper, and Costa Rica lost 3–4.
About His Life
Míchael Umaña is the youngest of three brothers. His brother Erick also played football in Costa Rica's second division.
